The caché of TV is not going away any time soon

Here’s a blog reader, commenting on the blog of a writer who is a social media marketer, working in part on Second Life…

You did pretty good [on the TV interview], it’s fun to see someone we know being on the News!

There’s still something about being on broadcast TV, even in the middle of the social media revolution…

That was my mother in law :) She’s great! I think what it is about TV is its still so hard to get on there. I dont value the opinions of a TV network very much, but by limiting how many people can get on TV (and how frequently), they create scarcity, which guarentees a perception of value. Just like how Nike can produce a limited run of shoes and sell them for thousands of dollars, even though they’re no better than the $90 pair. We bloggers like to talk about anything and everything that interests us, which means being mentioned on a blog or in a YouTube video isn’t in it of itself notable. Those posts/videos need to become super popular in order for their mere existence to be notable. (does that make sense? It does to me)
